The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut) [HD DVD]

The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Review

The necromonger plot is not really my cup of tea. What is my cup of tea is Vin Diesel as Riddick quietly and calmy killing a prison guard with a tea cup. I own this movie and watch it for things like that. I love the character Riddick which I can't imagine anyone playing better. He's not cocky, he's just confident. I love how he kills the prison guard sitting on his chest. So quietly and quickly, then gives a little shrug to the mercenaries. Very cool.

The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Feature

The Chronicles of Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Overview

Bigger isn't always better, but for anyone who enjoyed Pitch Black, a nominal sequel like The Chronicles of Riddick should prove adequately entertaining. Writer-director David Twohy returns with expansive sets, detailed costumes, an army of CGI effects artists, and the star he helped launch--Vin Diesel--bearing his franchise burden quite nicely as he reprises his title role. The Furian renegade Riddick has another bounty on his head, but when he escapes from his mercenary captors, he's plunged into an epic-scale war waged by the Necromongers. A fascist master race led by Lord Marshal (Colm Feore), they're determined to conquer all enemies in their quest for the Underverse, the appeal of which is largely unexplained (since Twohy is presumably reserving details for subsequent "chronicles"). With tissue-thin plotting, scant character development, and skimpy roles that waste the talents of Thandie Newton (as a Necromonger conspirator) and Judi Dench (as a wispy "Elemental" priestess), Twohy's back in the B-movie territory he started in (with The Arrival), brought to vivid life on a vast digital landscape with the conceptual allure of a lavish graphic novel. But does Riddick have leadership skills on his resumé? To get an answer to that question, sci-fi fans will welcome another sequel. --Jeff Shannon

The Frighteners (Peter Jackson's Director's Cut) [HD DVD]

The Frighteners (Peter Jackson's Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Review

This is one of my all time favorite movies and this director's cut is a must have for every fan

The Frighteners (Peter Jackson's Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Feature

The Frighteners (Peter Jackson's Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Overview

Universal The Frighteners (HD-DVD) (Widescreen, Director's Cut)
In the sleepy little town of Fairwater, a monstrous evil has awakened...an evil so powerful, its reach extends beyond the grave. Director PeterJackson and Executive Producer Robert Zemeckis unleash a riveting thriller with the most spectacular special effects this side of the hereafter. For Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox), death is a greatway to make a living: ridding haunted houses of their "unwelcome" guests." But he's in cahoots withthe very ghosts he promises to evict! It's the perfect scam...until Frank finds himself at the center of a dark mystery. A diabolical spirit is on a murderous rampage, and the whole town believes Frank is behind it. Boasting music by Danny Elfman and co-starring Trini Alvarado, Jeffrey Combs and John Astin, this supernatural chiller is so fiendishly entertaining, it's scary!

The Frighteners (Peter Jackson's Director's Cut) [HD DVD] Specifications

One movie lover's nightmare is another's raucous joyride, and this special effects-laden horror comedy is bound to split both camps right down the middle. (Or, as Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide puts it, "definitely not for all tastes but a wild time for those who get into it.") Michael J. Fox plays a psychic investigator who can actually see ghosts, and lives with a trio of undead spirits who scare people to promote Fox's ghost-busting business. In a town infamous for serial killings, a new series of deaths prompts Fox to induce his own out-of-body experience so he can battle death in a spirit-plagued netherworld where evil reigns supreme--or something like that. So much happens in this chaotic film that you might feel like you're watching several movies at once--a slasher pic, a supernatural thriller, and a black comedy all rolled into a nonstop showcase for grisly makeup and a dozen varieties of special effects. It's an odd but wildly inventive film from New Zealand director Peter Jackson, who earned critical acclaim for his previous film Heavenly Creatures and would later create the ingenious pseudo-documentary Forgotten Silver. --Jeff Shannon

Appleseed Ex Machina (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD]

Appleseed Ex Machina (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Review

The original Appleseed, in my opinion, was a masterpiece. I had doubts when I heard of a sequel, and how it was being criticized. After watching Appleseed: Ex Machina, I almost wonder if the reviewers and I watched the same film. I found Ex Machina to take me into the neo-future of Olympus with it's new cell-shaded look and amazing 3D animation. The story, still deep and twisted, the action, mind-blowing, and the quality of work is top-notch. I have only praises to give to this masterpiece, and urge others to not miss out on the phenomenon that is Appleseed: Ex Machina.

Appleseed Ex Machina (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Feature

Appleseed Ex Machina (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Overview

Produced by John Woo and directed by Shinji Aramaki, Appleseed Ex Machina (2007) ranks as the most elaborate, stylish, and violent of the three adaptations of Masamune Shirow's manga. When it was released in 1988, the original Appleseed felt like a summary of anime's past, while Akira pointed the way to the future. The second Appleseed (2004), also directed by Aramaki, was an unimpressive motion-capture CG feature that borrowed elements from other sci-fi anime. In this latest incarnation, Deunan, Briareos, and Tereus of the E.S.W.A.T. team are charged with preserving the peace of the city-state of Olympus, a hi-tech paradise on a largely ruined Earth. Screenwriters Kiyoto Takeuchi and Todd W. Russell have given the story a contemporary twist, adding attacks by "cyborg terrorists" and an effort by the ruler of Olympus to control a world-wide satellite surveillance system. When cyborgs and human launch coordinated attacks on the government headquarters in Olympus, Deunan, Briareos, and Tereus swing into action against a mysterious enemy. The plot has little in common with the earlier films: the Appleseed technology that was at the core of the story isn't even mentioned. The look, tone, and characters in Ex Machina recall Shirow's Ghost in the Shell, rather than the original Appleseed. Not surprisingly, the elaborately choreographed fight scenes reflect Woo's signature style, with slo-mo martial-arts combat, close-ups of falling shells, dynamic camerawork, and all-out gun battles. But the weightless movements of the motion-capture characters and the limited rendering of the skin textures gives Appleseed Ex Machina the feel of an extremely elaborate computer game. Despite the limits of the mo-cap technology, Appleseed Ex Machina is a fast-past, take-no-prisoners cinematic adventure that will delight action-movie fans as well as anime lovers. (Rated PG-13: violence, violence against women, profanity, grotesque imagery, potentially offensive religious imagery.) --Charles Solomon

Lucky Number Slevin [HD DVD]

Lucky Number Slevin [HD DVD] Review

Lucky # Sleven is a fun film with a surprise ending that fooled me the first time around. Fantastic cast with lots of stars and great character actors. This movie is well directed and has a tight script. If you like action movies with a twist, you can't go wrong with Lucky # Sleven. It reminded me of In Bruges, in that the director brought a strong personality and a bit of attitude to the film.

The DVD includes two commentaries and a "making of" short.

Lucky Number Slevin [HD DVD] Feature

Lucky Number Slevin [HD DVD] Overview

How boring it is to label a movie Tarantino-esque anymore. The thing is, when it comes to an offering like Lucky Number Slevin, the shoe fits, and the result is anything but boring. Gruesome killings, arid wit, self-reflexive pop culture references, an A-list cast, and style-heavy production values abound, which gives the proceedings an epoxy bond that seals the Q.T. homage factor. Josh Hartnett--who spends a lot of buffed-up time with his shirt off--is Slevin Kelevra, a hapless fellow visiting his New York friend Nick. But Nick has disappeared, which sets off a mistaken-identity thrill ride when two goons grab Slevin (he's in Nick's apartment so he must be Nick) and take him to their crime lord boss, the Boss (Morgan Freeman). The Boss doesn't care about Slevin's wrong-man protests; he just wants the ,000 Nick owes him. In one of many offers he can't refuse, Slevin has to agree to murder the son of the Boss's felonious arch rival, the Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) or take the bullet himself. But Slevin turns out to be no ordinary patsy. Thrown into the ingeniously designed production, clever plot twists, and academic nods to Bond, Hitchcock, and obscure old cartoons are Lucy Liu as a sexy coroner, Stanley Tucci as an obsessed cop, and Bruce Willis as a wily hit man with his finger in many pots. With so much visual and narrative trickery, there's almost too much to absorb in one viewing of this convoluted jigsaw puzzle of revenge and entertaining mayhem. Lucky Number Slevin isn't quite up to par with similarly brainy thrillers like Memento and The Usual Suspects, but the prospect of seeing it again in order to get your bearings is just as appealing. --Ted Fry

The Fugitive [HD DVD] Overview

Warner Brothers The Fugitive - HD DVD
Catch him if you can. TheFugitive is on the run! Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones race through the breathless manhunt moviebased on the classic TV series. Ford is prison escapee Dr. Richard Kimble, a Chicago surgeon falsely convicted of killing his wife and determined to prove his innocence by leading his pursuers to theone-armed man who actually committed the crime. Jones (1993 Academy Award and Golden Globe winner as Best Supporting Actor) is Sam Gerard, an unrelenting bloodhound of a U.S. Marshal. They are huntedand hunter. And as directed by Andrew Davis (Under Siege), their nonstop chase has one exhilaratingspeed: all-out. So catch him if you can. And catch an 11-on-a-scale-of-10 train wreck (yes, the train is real), a plunge down a waterfall, a cat-and-mouse jaunt through a Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade and much more. Better hurry. Kimble doesn't stay in one place very long!

The Fugitive [HD DVD] Specifications

Do you know anyone who hasn't seen this movie? A box-office smash when released in 1993, this spectacular update of the popular 1960s TV series stars Harrison Ford as a surgeon wrongly accused of the murder of his wife. He escapes from a prison transport bus (in one of the most spectacular stunt-action sequences ever filmed) and embarks on a frantic quest for the true killer's identity, while a tenacious U.S. marshal (Tommy Lee Jones, in an Oscar-winning role) remains hot on his trail. Director Andrew Davis hit the big time with this expert display of polished style and escalating suspense, but it's the antagonistic chemistry between Jones and Ford that keeps this thriller cooking to the very end. In roles that seem custom-fit to their screen personas, the two stars maintain a sharply human focus to the grand-scale manhunt, and the intelligent screenplay never resorts to convenient escapes or narrative shortcuts. Equally effective as a thriller and a character study, this is a Hollywood blockbuster that truly deserves its ongoing popularity. --Jeff Shannon

The Reaping (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD]

The Reaping (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Review

I had forgotten all about this film until I saw its trailer on another movie. It was next on my list, and I'm glad I saw it.

I think it fits in with the pyschological/thriller genre, instead of horror. I thought the acting was great, and the story made sense.

This is one of those movies that you'll really like, or nor, not much in between.

I loved Swank's character, and I would reccommend renting this and giving it a chance.

I give it a B.

The Reaping (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Feature

The Reaping (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Overview

Spanning over one thousand years & three parallel stories this is a story of love death spirituality & fragility of our existence in this world. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/16/2007 Starring: Hugh Jackman Ellen Burstyn Run time: 98 minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: M Night Shyamalan

The Reaping (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Specifications

The Reaping capitalizes on cheesy clichĂ©s to begin with, rendering it even less scary than predecessors like Children of the Corn, The Devil's Rain, Satan's Blood, or All the Colors of the Dark. Overuse of CG special effects ruin this already bad film about Louisiana State University scientist Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank), who heads to the bayou to investigate what at first she denies is a Biblical plague. The river has turned to blood, frogs fall from the sky, cattle die, and the townspeople keel over covered with red bumps, while Katherine, who happens to have been an ordained minister before she became a university professor, struggles to justify these horrendous events sans religion. Eventually, Katherine's skepticism places her in danger, as the town lays blame on Loren McConnell (AnnaSophia Robb), bewitched daughter of a local Satan worshipping family, and the one whom Katherine tries to protect since Loren recalls her own deceased daughter. As Katherine and Loren battle as angel and devil, they learn to instead forge Team Faith against the townsfolk who are all part of a sinister, inbred, Satanic cult. The film is badly cast, and the acting is horrendous, save Hilary Swank, who at least looks sexy traversing the swamps with a hunting knife hooked through her belt. The Rosemary's Baby ending is the icing on the cake. There is nothing original about The Reaping, except that it might be the biggest rip-off of previous Satanic cult films ever made. —Trinie Dalton

Atonement (HD DVD and DVD Combo) [HD DVD]

Atonement (HD DVD and DVD Combo) [HD DVD] Review

I was not prepared for this movie. It swept me of my feet. I usually prefer to read the novel first, but this time I didn't so I don't really know if it was close to the book. Specially loved the impersonation of Cecilia and Briony. And the photography! OMG! a collectors item, I'm sure.
But beware! If you like "happy" movies, this is not for you, it is not easy to digest the story. But for me it was as enjoyable as ever! Good job for the Director.

Atonement (HD DVD and DVD Combo) [HD DVD] Feature

Atonement (HD DVD and DVD Combo) [HD DVD] Overview

Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 03/18/2008 Rating: R

Atonement (HD DVD and DVD Combo) [HD DVD] Specifications

Director Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice) gives Ian McEwan's bestselling novel a sumptuous treatment for the screen that should come to be regarded as one of the defining films of the epic romantic drama. Indeed, everything about this film stems from those three words: there is little here that is not epic, romantic, and dramatic, and Atonement is a film that masterfully expresses the overarching sense of adventure and emotion that such stories are meant to convey. In this instance, the story centers around the love story of highborn Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley) and housekeeper's son Robbie Turner (James McAvoy, in a star-making turn), in England shortly before World War II. Despite their class differences, they are powerfully attracted to each other, and just as their relationship begins Robbie is tragically forced away due to false accusations from Cecilia's younger sister Briony (Saoirse Ronan). She has a crush on Robbie, too, and after reading a! private letter he sent to Cecilia, and then witnessing the first expression of their mutual love but mistaking it for mistreatment, her resentment grows until it leads to her telling the lie that will send Robbie away. Soon World War II breaks out; Robbie enlists and is posted to France, Cecilia is a nurse in London, and Briony, now age 18 and aware of what she has done, tries to atone for her actions--but none of them will be able to get back what they have lost. Knightley and McAvoy are perfectly cast as the young star crossed lovers, and the young Ronan is particularly impressive, but it's clear that the real star of this film is the director. Wright allows Atonement to revel in every moment of its story and each scene is compelling in its own way, but that now famous extended shot with Robbie on the beach at Dunkirk--filmed in one take and sure to be considered one of the great long tracking shots in film history--is the most memorable moment in this remarkable ! film. Atonement is an excellent example of what can hap! pen when a great book meets great filmmaking. This is one that is not to be missed. --Daniel Vancini

Video Game Technology Makes Better Use Of TV

Video gaming is a use of TV technology, the slightly over the edge of what most people with a lump in my home entertainment (probably) because of the obvious home computer, but it is a very popular usage of TV sets yet.

Video games were first available back in the seventies with the introduction of the Atari and Intellivision. These two video game systems, creating very primitive, low-resolution graphics and sound effects and music much easier, butoffered much entertainment of the first-generation gamers. These were the gaming platforms, the first brought us the classic games like Pacman, Donkey Kong, and asteroids in our own house.

Nintendo and Sega brought us the next generation of video games that much more realism provided. These systems were faster and had higher resolution and more memory for much larger games. There were action-adventure games like The Legend of Zelda, fast-paced side-scrolling games like SonicThe Hedgehog, and racing games like Road Rash.

Over the years, video game platforms have become only better and have helped to make new technologies and mainstream. For example, Sony Play Station 2, not only further increases the bar for the quality of the pictures that come from a video game console could, but also helped to DVD 's is the standard video format for movies at home.

Recently, we have access to the Nintendo Wii, the Play Station 3Sony's and Microsoft's Xbox 360 The Nintendo Wii offers a cost effective and flexible way to a bunch of different games in a family environment to enjoy. The Play Station 3 and Xbox 360 are high-end gaming platforms, the advantage of the latest TV technology of displaying graphics in HDTV resolutions up to 1080p and play DVD s. '

The Play Station 3 and Xbox 360 are very impressive pieces of equipment because of the computing power that they bothhave. Both have multi-core processors, they can generate high-resolution graphics. In fact, many people who are playing the other Play Station 3 must remember that they see a video game instead of just watching videos of live human beings! Both platforms also have hard drives that are used to download music, games, and even preferences to be able to store video.

The Play Station 3 has to be the extra feature Blu-ray High Def DVD 's,promote the new format to build additional functionality into the device helps. The Xbox 360 is the competing HD DVD format to play with the addition of an external HD DVD drive. The Xbox 360 can also download high def movies, while the Play Station 3 can Upconvert regular DVD's and Play Station 2 Games on High -definition resolutions.

In contrast, the cheaper Wii from Nintendo is not all the high def capabilities, but it canAccess to the Web and download various supplementary materials. The Wii also has a special remote control that will be used, in order to play sports games like baseball and tennis.

All in all video game platforms have come a long way in the last thirty years!

Freedom Vol. 2 (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD]

Freedom Vol. 2 (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Review

Freedom Vol. 2 (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Feature

Freedom Vol. 2 (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD] Overview

As the sci-fi adventure Freedom continues, the story expands and becomes much more interesting than the initial chapter about street racing suggested. While doing mandatory "volunteer work" on the lunar surface, 15-year-old misfit Takeru discovers a photograph of a girl he doesn't recognize. He and his friends Kazuma and Bismark comb the city of Eden for her; computer searches for the background in the photo yield no results. Takeru even forges a grudging alliance with rival racer Taira, hoping to learn about the mysterious girl. Alan, the eccentric collector of astronaut memorabilia, reveals the picture was taken on Earth. But the citizens of Eden have been taught that the surface of the Earth was reduced to uninhabitable rubble long ago: Humanity can only exist in Eden on the Moon. Although the influence of Akira remains a little too obvious in some scenes, the second episode of Freedom is far more entertaining than the first. But dribbling out the series in single installments, even in double format, seems needlessly slow and pricey. (Rated 13 and older: minor violence) --Charles Solomon

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Combo HD DVD and DVD) [HD DVD]

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Combo HD DVD and DVD) [HD DVD] Review

this is a great Animae movie of an alternative 'analogue' technology with clear links to aviation and computor developments that ceased at the end of world war 2. I found the depth of detail in the animation compelling and I was able to get involved in the characters and the plot very easily.

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Combo HD DVD and DVD) [HD DVD] Feature

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (Combo HD DVD and DVD) [HD DVD] Overview

Many anime fans acclaim writer-director Hiroyuki Yamaga's Wings of Honneamise as a masterpiece, but general audiences may react less enthusiastically. Honneamise is a small country in a parallel world very similar to Earth. Shiro Lhadatt, the least impressive cadet in the air force flight school, volunteers to become the first astronaut in a controversial space program. Training toughens his body, while the priggish evangelist Riqunni challenges him to discipline his spirit. In one distasteful sequence, Shiro attempts to rape her. The next morning he starts to apologize, only to have her apologize for braining him with a candlestick, a scene certain to infuriate feminists. Despite an invasion by a hostile country, Shiro gets into space and delivers a ponderous homily from his capsule.

Wings was made by a group of young artists in 1987, and with a record- setting budget. Art director Hiromasa Ogura's lavish designs blend '80s high-tech with art nouveau, and Yamaga's leaden pacing gives viewers the time to study every detail. Fans of Honneamise acclaim it as a critical meditation on the illusions and follies of the human race, which suggests that profundity, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. (Ages 13 and older for violence, attempted rape, and occasional profanity) --Charles Solomon

Billy Madison [HD DVD]

Billy Madison [HD DVD] Review

Billy Madison is one of my all-time favorite Adam Sandler films. It will keep you laughing, that's for sure!

Billy Madison [HD DVD] Feature

Billy Madison [HD DVD] Overview

Billy Madison the dim-witted son of a millionaire wastes his life guzzling beer and devising obscene pranks until his father threatens to leave him nothing. In order to earn his father's respect Billy who bribed his way through school must pass all 12 grades in six months or see a sycophantic assistant get his father's fortune. Billy struggles with the aide and his own idiocy to make good in this gag-filled farce.System Requirements:Running Time: 90 Mins.Format: DVD HD Genre: COMEDY Rating: PG-13 UPC: 025193294128 Manufacturer No: 61032941

Billy Madison [HD DVD] Specifications

For Adam Sandler fans only, this dopey comedy features the former Saturday Night Live star as an overindulged rich guy whose father insists he repeat grades 1 through 12 before taking over the family business. The scenario is perfect for Sandler's infantile leanings (which he has fortunately outgrown in more recent movies), and for the most part the jokes about being too old and too big for the experiment are obvious. Chris Farley and Steve Buscemi turn up in uncredited cameo appearances, but otherwise the film is pretty dismissible, except for those diehards who can't get enough of Sandler. --Tom Keogh

The Mummy [HD DVD]

The Mummy [HD DVD] Review

It seems like a long time ago when this came out, but I remember it being the first DVD I had ever bought sight unseen, meaning I had never seen the film in the theater or on tape. I was pleased. I got what I had hoped for: a fun, special-effects extravaganza.

This was an Indiana Jones-Jason And The Argonauts combination adventure story. It's cartoon-like in nature with an absurd swashbuckling hero, outlandish action scenes and the occult theology that filmmakers love so much. (The Mummy has God-like powers, even producing Old Testament plagues.)

However, the film is too long by about 10-15 minutes and there is simply too much action and too much noise. The film needs more lulls.

Brendan Fraser is pretty good as the Indiana Jones figure and Rachel Weisz, a new face at the time, makes a solid impression in her debut. The DVD offered a sharp picture which highlighted a number of jaw-dropping scenes. It's pure escapist fun and not meant to be anything else.
As in many cases, I think this was the best in this modern series, which now numbers three, I believe.

The Mummy [HD DVD] Feature

The Mummy [HD DVD] Overview

Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 11/28/2006 Run time: 125 minutes Rating: Pg13

The Mummy [HD DVD] Specifications

If you're expecting bandaged-wrapped corpses and a lurching Boris Karloff-type villain, then you've come to the wrong movie. But if outrageous effects, a hunky hero, and some hearty laughs are what you're looking for, the 1999 version of The Mummy is spectacularly good fun. Yes, the critics called it "hokey," "cheesy," and "pallid." Well, the critics are unjust. Granted, the plot tends to stray, the acting is a bit of a stretch, and the characters occasionally slip into cliché, but who cares? When that action gets going, hold tight--those two hours just fly by.

The premise of the movie isn't that far off from the original. Egyptologist and general mess Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) discovers a map to the lost city of Hamunaptra, and so she hires rogue Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) to lead her there. Once there, Evelyn accidentally unlocks the tomb of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), a man who had been buried alive a couple of millennia ago with flesh-eating bugs as punishment for sleeping with the pharaoh's girlfriend. The ancient mummy is revived, and he is determined to bring his old love back to life, which of course means much mayhem (including the unleashing of the 10 plagues) and human sacrifice. Despite the rather gory premise, this movie is fairly tame in terms of violence; most of the magic and surprise come from the special effects, which are glorious to watch, although Imhotep, before being fully reconstituted, is, as one explorer puts it, rather "juicy." Keep in mind this film is as much comedy as it is adventure--those looking for a straightforward horror pic will be disappointed. But for those who want good old-fashioned eye-candy kind of fun, The Mummy ranks as one of choicest flicks of 1999. --Jenny Brown

Van Helsing [HD DVD] Review

I am a loyal customer a Amazon.com, I am very glad to mention to all of the global customer that i am very much impressed with the picture quality, product quality, and the awesome service provided by the amazon globally, i truly recommend to all the global customer to take the advantage of the amazon.

Van Helsing [HD DVD] Feature

Van Helsing [HD DVD] Overview

Like a roller coaster ready to fly off its rails, Van Helsing rockets to maximum velocity and never slows down. Having earned blockbuster clout with The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers once again plunders Universal's monster vault and pulls out all the stops for this mammoth 8-million action-adventure-horror-comedy, which opens (sans credits) with a terrific black-and-white prologue that pays homage to the Universal horror classics that inspired it. The plot pits legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) against Dracula (the deliciously campy Richard Roxburgh), his deadly blood-sucking brides, and the Wolfman (Will Kemp) in a two-hour parade of outstanding special effects (980 in all) that turn Sommers' juvenile plot into a triple-overtime bonus for CGI animators. In alliance with a Transylvanian princess (Kate Beckinsale) and the Frankenstein monster (Shuler Hensley), Van Helsing must prevent Dracula from hatching his bat-winged progeny, and there's so much good-humored action that you're guaranteed to be thrilled and exhausted by the time the 10-minute end-credits roll. It's loud, obnoxious, filled with revisionist horror folklore, and aimed at addicted gamers and eight-year-olds, but this colossal monster mash (including Mr. Hyde, just for kicks) will never, ever bore you. A sequel is virtually guaranteed. --Jeff Shannon

Blu Ray VS HD DVD - Who Will Win The Format War ?

Blu-ray and HD-DVD (High Definition DVD) are two contrasting technologies for digital storage media such as high-definition movies, games and other audio-visual material. There are a few other new technologies, but it seems that these two are rivals of the big players in the battle for consumers' hearts and minds at home. So, what are they, that is a better and who is likely to gain the latest technology format war.

Blu-ray was created by the Blu-ray Disc Association, an association of major consumer electronics manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic, as high-capacity storage device with the standard DVD format. HD-DVD is the DVD Forum, an alternative association of high-tech electronics manufacturers, including Toshiba and NEC developed to replace the replacement of a standard DVD.

Both operate on the same principle. You use a blue laser with a shorter wavelength than the standard red laser of> DVD's and CD's (405 nm compared to 650 nm). This allows more space on a disc space is more than high-definition video is becoming an important industry standard in movies, TV and video games.

The latest information on storage capacities in any format is Blu-ray in front. A single-layer Blu-ray disc can store up to 25GB compared to HD-DVD 15 GB. A dual-layer Blu-ray can store 50 GB, while HD DVD stores 30 GB. This suggests, that wouldblu-ray can store more detail and therefore a better additional features to movies, etc. While this is not quite true, as video compression effect are stored on the amount of information on a CD, is the ability to make a significant difference between the two formats.

First Blu-ray disc data stored near the surface of the disk. This meant that if the disc in any way, it would probably be a malfunction or jam scratched when playing. Obviously, a protective layer has now beenimported to newer blu-ray disc that protects the data much more. HD DVD ever deeper into the data disk and are resistant to the most minor scratches and scuffs.

Although the underlying technology is in a format war is important, it is often the case, the people support each format, which has more influence on the outcome.

Here too, it seems like Blu-ray has the advantage.

Blu-ray is supported by consumer electronics firms Sony,Panasonic, Philips, Sharp and Pioneer and many others. This indicates that they are products that are produced solely for the use of the Blu-ray technology are given. The latest example is the Sony Playstation 3, which has a Blu-ray Disc player.

In the field of computer technology companies, blu-ray is supported by Apple, Dell, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett Packard. Your drives are using Blu-ray.

Possibly more important for people interested in the apartmentEntertainment are the big movie companies supporting Blu-ray. These are 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Although there are Walt Disney and Warner Bros. does not support them exclusively and produce movies in HD DVD format. At this point, only Universal Pictures, an exclusive contract for HD-DVD has pictures produce.

On the HD DVD side may be the biggest player is Microsoft. They have HD-DVD reader in the XBox games console and seems determined to throw their weight into the balance, HD-DVD.

Of the major companies in the consumer electronics, are the main supporters of HD DVD Toshiba, NEC, and Kenwood.

In the field of computer-component manufacturers, Intel is behind HD-DVD.

Although it is still unclear who would win the format war, it seems that blu ray has some strong supporters. Although HD DVD has some big names, notably Microsoft. The prices of individual players and recording devices may also have implications for success in any format. At this point, most products are very expensive, but that will change with time.
